Remembering Ed Ostrander

We are saddened by the passing on November 13 of Ed Ostrander, a true champion of labor. Ed was president of UAW Local 4911, which represents service, technical, and skilled trades workers at Sparrow Hospital. He was also president of the Lansing Labor New board and active in the United Way. Ed did a great deal for the members of his Local and for the community at large. He will be sorely missed by us and by all who knew him.

Local 724 President Dean Poggiali said in part: “Ed was a fighter, a believer in the UAW who fought the good fight to represent his membership with the utmost of integrity and compassion … He will be remembered fondly as one who gave his all and asked little in return. Brother Ed, although our times together were short in duration, the lasting value of your friendship with stay with us forever. Save a chair for us at the great union hall in the sky, my friend.”

Ed is survived by Paula, his loving wife of 31 years; daughters Rachael (Kristopher) Hamilton and Renee Ostrander; grandchildren Kyleigh Burtley and Griffin Hamilton; brothers Steve Ostrander and David Lakes; sister Myra Ostrander; father Myron Ostrander; and mother-in-law and father-in-law Roger and Betty Theodorski.
